Snowboarding Poland

Why is Zakopane the perfect holiday destination?

zakopane
Located at the foot of the Tatra Mountains, Zakopane is not only a basecamp for your snowboard activities. On the colourful streets is where the thriving life of Polish winter capital exclaims itself, the beauty of the place really shines through. Zakopane has the advantage of being overlooked by a monumental mountain range which every year attracts millions of people both in winter for snowboarding, and in the summer season for hiking, trekking and camping. The Tatra mountain range has been compared to the Lake District, while the Tatra National Park (TPN - Tatrzański Park Narodowy) remains one of the most precious mountain areas in the whole of Europe.

A history of professional skiing in the Tatra mountain range started in 1936, when the cable car was built to the summit of Mount Kasprowy Wierch. Rising up to 1987 meters (6,519 feet) above sea level, Kasprowy Wierch is surrounded by the most picturesque valleys of the Tatra range: the Goryczkowa Valley (Dolina Goryczkowa), the Gasienicowe Valley (Dolina Stawów Gasienicowych), the Kasprowa Valley (Dolina Kasprowa), and (in nearby Slovakia) the Silent Valley (Dolina Cicha).
